Deggendorf is a small town, 150 km from Munich, in the State of Bavaria in Germany. St. Vinzenzheim, which literally means St. Vincent’s Home, is one of the three Homes for the Aged, run by St. Vincent Society, associated with the parish of Deggendorf, in the diocese of Regensburg. The Parish Priest of Deggendorf is ex-officio the first President of this Society.
Initially the German nuns were running this Home, but could not continue to do so on account of shortage of personnel. And Rev. Fr. Joseph Pommer, the then Vicar of Deggendorf happened to meet with the St. Joseph’s Sisters, serving in Rötz, and inquired into the possibility of getting the services of a few Sisters in St. Vinzenzheim. The Sisters contacted Rev. Fr. Cyriac Thevarmannil, who in turn conveyed the matter to the Bishop of Kottayam. Thus the first batch of eight, Srs. Silvia, sophy, Lititia, Alin Tresa, Jancy, Celine Jose, suja and Jean Maria reached Deggendorf, accompanied by Rev. Fr. Luke Poothrukayil on December 16, 1987. As the new building was under construction, the Sisters stayed in Haus Mariental, 3 km away, where the Sisters of Caritas Secular Institute were working. They moved in to the present House on October 24, 1988. It was officially blessed on February 19, 1989 by Rt. Rev. Manfred Müller, Bishop of Regensburg.
Rev. Fr. Joseph Pommer had always been a source of encouragement and support to the Sisters. He was called to eternal reward on September 25, 1991, nursed and cared for by the Sisters during his last days.
From the very inception Sr. Silvia has been the Superior of this House. The services and help of Rev. Frs. Luke Poothrukayil and Simon Pazhukayil are worth mentioning. The former superiors are Srs.Silvia, Johnsia, Jasmin and Sr.Grmma is appointed as present superior.
Due to the shortage of sisters, this convent temporarily closed in the yar 2017 and the sisters are transfered to Munich and krezenzia
