In a parish meeting, held on January 13, 1974 under the chairmanship of the Vicar, Rev. Fr. Joseph Thadanakuzhy, it was discussed to have a Convent in the parish. Further it was resolved to make a substantial contribution to this purpose. Accordingly, with the permission of the Bishop, a small house and the adjacent plot was purchased from Mr. Joseph Kuruppamcheril. The first batch of Sisters, Srs. Rita, Tessy, Mettilda and Innocent, who arrived on June 2, 1974, started staying in a building of Mr. Cherian Koottakaithayil, rent-free.
Bishop Mar Kuriakose Kunnacherry laid the foundation stone of the Convent on September 22, 1974. He blessed the Convent on March 19, 1975. It is worth mentioning that Rev. Frs. Joseph Thadanakuzhy, Jacob Vellian, Luke Poothrukkayil, Chacko Thudampadam, Mrs. Aleykutty Vazhakkalayil, Messrs. George Kuzhippil, Chacko Neduvampuzha, Uthuppu Vengalil, Savio Kunnacherry, Thomas Kavanal, the staff of St. Joseph’s L.P. School, and many sister institutions were generous enough to contribute substantially.
The former Superiors of this Convent are Srs. Rita, Nepemsia, Aloysius, Savio, Jositta, Anselm, Dennis, Mathews, Jyothis Maria, Philippina, Juliet, Lissy Tom, Helen, Litty Jose, Preema and Mareena. Sr.Stephy is the present superior of this convent.
